Home Oil Tank Laws
While the laws on home heating oil storage tanks vary by state, homeowners are encouraged to contact their Town to determine if there are any local regulations regarding the use of their oil storage tanks. Overall, many states are attempting to step up and create a better, safer living environment.
The state of Massachusetts is implementing a new law that will be in affect as of September 30, 2011. The law states that all Massachusetts residents who use a home heating oil storage tank to heat their homes must have an oil safety valve or oil supply line with a protective sleeve. If residents fail to comply with the new law they will be subject to a fine. http://www.mass.gov/dep/cleanup/laws/hhsl.htm
